Bayat Foundation Connects and Empowers the Afghanistan Media by distributing Afghan Wireless Handsets with free airtime for 2 years.

Bayat Foundation, the largest private donor organization in Afghanistan, introduces a new concept of using technology to enhance productivity of the media in the country.

In a ceremony today in Kabul, Mr. Ehsanullah Bayat, Founder of the Bayat Foundation, handed over 400 Handsets with Afghan Wireless connections to media representatives including journalists, editors, and owners of media houses.

The journalists will enjoy very low rates on all calls within the media group at just 1 AF per minute. They will also enjoy the “Afghan Wireless advantage” that its’ 1,700,000 subscribers already enjoy such as per second billing, and fast, reliable communications with the Afghan Wireless Digital Ring Network; eliminating satellite connections that have long delays and are unreliable. In addition, the Bayat Foundation will give a 500 AF monthly free airtime credit for a period of 2 years for each connection. The total cost of this donation to the media will be over 27,000,000 Afs.

Addressing the journalists, Mr. Bayat said, “In today’s information age, communication at a mass level is the key in creating much needed awareness to the country. It is vital that the people of Afghanistan stay informed with the daily events and progress in the country that will affect their lives. The challenge for the media here is commendable due to the lack of resources, infrastructure and needed sophisticated training for the media. It becomes even a tougher challenge to deliver their professional responsibilities if proper communications are also not available. It will be a great achievement for the country when the 400 journalists from different media outlets are connected with each other very closely in a cost effective way and performing their professional assignments all across Afghanistan. Your efforts will surely improve the communication to and among the people.”

With news traveling at record speeds to people around the globe, the role played by the media is immense. The challenge for the journalists and all other related members of the media is to ensure that they deliver the facts with speed and accuracy. With the cost effective communication tools provided by the Bayat Foundation and powered by Afghan Wireless, the Bayat Foundation hopes to help the media in Afghanistan with these important tasks of accuracy, speed and reliability to the people of Afghanistan.
